 FAQs

  • Yes! We accept BCBS/Anthem and Aetna PPO

  • At Rise Counseling we believe that everyone can benefit from therapy. You might be experiencing negative thoughts or even physical symptoms such as tense shoulders. If you feel overwhelmed, unhappy, or hopeless about your life, it’s best to seek out a therapist who can help you determine the root cause of these feelings. Alternatively, if you have a lifestyle change you want to make but are having trouble reaching it, working with a therapist can help you identify how to get there.

  • During the first session, we’ll discuss what brings you to counseling and explore what you’d like to change. This is your first opportunity to share your story with your therapist and to ask any questions you have. We understand the anxiety clients feel as they begin the therapy process, because we’ve been a therapy client too. Rest assured that this is a safe space where you’ll be met with empathy.

  • All sessions are virtual so you can have them anywhere that you’ll have privacy (as long as it’s in Illinois). You’ll be sent a link before the session that will take you to a secure, HIPAA compliant platform.

  • Several factors influence the length of the therapy process. Some common issues that influence therapy length include duration and severity of the issue(s), family of origin, support system, and personal style with respect to change. Research shows that you should feel initial symptoms reduced after 8-12 sessions. At that point we encourage you to check in with yourself and see if underlying issues have been addressed and resolved, or if more counseling is needed. Realistically resolving deeper patterns and issues can take 6 months to a year for lasting change. We’ll be setting your initial goals and then tracking your progress together. We’ll also take time to acknowledge changes you’re noticing after the first few sessions.

  • If you’d like to use insurance, we accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Please check with your insurance provider to verify benefits and coverage. If you’re paying out of pocket we charge $150 for an individual session and $175 for a couples session.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy technique that’s helpful for addressing past or present life experiences that are causing distress through processing memories and beliefs. EMDR was first developed and researched as a treatment for healing trauma, and it’s effective for relieving PTSD symptoms.

  • Reaching out is the first step. You can start by sending us an e-mail to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. You can talk to a counselor about your concerns and decide if we’re the right fit for you. We know it can be nerve-wracking and will help you through each step of the process.
